Charity Bike ride / Walk - Sat 20/06/09 at 8.30am
South Hants Volleyball Club is organizing a Charity Bike ride and walk to raise money for ALIVE & KICKING UK CHARITY and the club. Charity website: http://www.aliveandkicking.org.uk/index.php
The walk and the bike ride are going to take place on Saturday 20th June'09, start from Red Lion Pub in Chalton at 8.30am.
1. The route = walk and cycle are going to be laps so you can drop out when you had enough. Walkers can do 1 loop 10 miles or 2 loops 20 miles or more if they wish too. Cyclists can do anything from 1 loop 13.7 miles (about 2 hours ride) , up to 4 x 13.7 miles = about 54 miles (about 8 or more hours ride).
2. Anybody is welcome to join in, even people who do not want to look around for sponsorship. Those people can donate a small 'taking part' fee of £5 to enter the organised walk / cycle. I have prepared sponsorship forms for all entries so if you are interested in taking part, please let me know, and I will email you a form. The same form will also need to be filled by people donating ‘taking part’ fee of £5.
3. Great news is that Red Lion Pub in Chalton have agreed to help us out. They will set up a water station outside the pub and are happy for us to use their toilet facilities throughout the day.
The route for the cyclists and the walkers is as per below:
The cycle ride is a figure of eight based around Chalton and centred around The Red Lion pub. The route is about 50% off road and 50% on road. The on road is using quiet roads and the rest of the ride will be on off road tracks and bridleways. Maps are available on request. This route is figure of eight, one loop about 13.7 miles long. So to complete 54 mile you will need to do 4 full circuits. There is not any pressure to do 54 miles, it is up to you to set up your own target.
The cyclist will be training = 5.30pm Thursday evenings and 11am Sunday mornings, starting at The Red Lion in Chalton. You are all welcome to join us.
The walkers route is similar to cycle route but is 95% off road. Again the route will pass by the Red Lion at Chalton. Please see the map for details.
Please view this as a social event, where we can have a bit of fun, get fit and raise some money for a charity and the club. Ask friends and family if they want to join you for the walk or cycle, or just to come along and support. It should make for a great day out and the food in the Red Lion Pub is fantastic!
P.S. Could somebody please book the weather ;o)
Alive & Kicking UK has 3 aims: 1. To employ previously unemployed adults in Africa at a fair wage to hand stitch sports balls 2. To donate durable, repairable leather balls to children in some of the poorest communities in Africa 3. To warn children about the dangers of HIV/AIDS, malaria, and TB by printing every ball with health awareness messages
