(25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 22-25, 15-9)

The first match of the season saw the girls travelling to Manchester. After an interesting journey, involving 3 stops before the convoy actually joined up, the team arrived with 5 minutes to spare before warm-up started.

Playing against a young team, Tameside’s setter was just 14, South Hants struggled to find any consistency and although they fought to remain in the set they lost the first 25-18.

After a few team changes South Hants started the second strongly, with steady serving and some well placed attacks. Still not in top gear the team went down 25-22.

The third set saw a vast improvement, with serve receive being the key area, allowing the setters to take control of the game. The team worked together to put the opposition under pressure resulting in winning the third set 22-25.

The team continued the momentum in the fourth taking the lead and keeping just ahead throughout with some good tactical plays and consistent serve receive. With the team finally playing with confidence they won the fourth 22-25.

The fifth set started with Tameside taking the early lead. Although South Hants were initially able to remain within a few points from the opposition they were finally overpowered and lost the final set 15-9.
